History

Quidi Vidi (pronunciations vary, even amongst longtime residents, but "Kiddy Viddy" is the most common) is a former outport community. Quidi Vidi Village played important roles in both the military and economic history of the region. It gets its name from the nearby lake – Quidi Vidi Lake where the Royal St. John's Regatta is held the first Wednesday in August (weather permitting) and from the Quidi Vidi Harbour - known locally as "The Gut". Located in this quaint village are several sites you won’t want to miss including Mallard Cottage, Mallard Inn, Quidi vidi Brewery, and the Inn of Olde – a local tavern.
